On Monday we opened this beautiful, dark new play by Jonelle Walker. TAME. is a response to Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew set in Anahuac, Texas in 1960. It's a play about young women's self-determination, with a young queer female character at its center who refuses to conform to society's expectations. I believe so strongly in this play and it has been an honor to be part of the later workshop development stages of this script and put it on its feet in its first full production, running now thru December 11 with WSC Avant Bard at Gunston Arts Center in Arlington, VA. This creative team has been incredible to collaborate with, and I'm so excited to get to play for the next 6 weeks in a world created by this amazing team: Set designer Eric McMorris, props designer Becky Mezzanotte, lighting designer E-hui Woo, costume designer Danielle Preston, sound designer Mehdi Raoufi, dialect coach Christine Hirrel, fight choreographer Danny Cackley, playwright Jonelle Walker, director Angela Kay Pirko, stage manager Laura Schlactmeyer, assistant dramaturge Brett Abelman, and dramaturge Maegan Clearwood.
